Singer James Blunt has promised to legally change his name if his iconic album ‘Back to Bedlam’ reaches the top spot on the charts again. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Blunt, now 50, engaged his fans with a bold offer—allowing them to select his new name should his album re-enter the charts at number one.

Taking to social media, Blunt announced that his fans had humorously chosen the name ‘Blunty McBluntface,’ a playful nod to the famous 2016 ‘Boaty McBoatface’ episode, where the British public overwhelmingly chose the whimsical name for a new research vessel, although it wasn’t ultimately used for the ship. Instead, a submersible proudly bore the name.

With a sigh, Blunt revealed, “People have no imagination,” acknowledging the public’s choice with good humour. This announcement is part of his promotional efforts for the album’s re-release, which includes the lead single “You’re Beautiful”—a track famously labelled as one of the most annoying songs. As Blunt put it, “I’ll let the people decide,” inviting the public to playfully influence his life, yet with the caveat that if the album doesn’t hit number one, his name—and identity—remain unchanged.
