Woman in hospital under police guard after high speed chase in Bega Valley

A woman is recovering in hospital under police guard after an alleged stolen car was in a high speed pursuit in the Bega Valley earlier this week.

About 8am on Wednesday (December 4) officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol were at the Princes Highway, Millingandi, when they sighted an alleged stolen vehicle travelling north between Pambula and Wolumla.

When officers engaged their car’s warning lights, the car failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated, where the vehicle allegedly reached speeds of up to 170km/hr.

The chase was called off a short time later for safety reasons but police located the vehicle a short distance away on the Princes Highway, near Millingandi Road, after the car left the road and rolled.

The 47-year-old female driver was arrested near the vehicle.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated her for facial and shoulder injuries.

She was taken to Southeast Regional Hospital, where she remains under police guard.

Police inquiries into the incident are continuing.
