Surfside homeowners told there are three options to protect their properties from the surf

Michael Holland has listed three options to fix the disappearing sand dunes behind a row of properties at Batemans Bay.

The State MP discussed the issue with several Ministers since visiting some of the affected homeowners at Surfside almost two weeks ago.

He returned last Friday afternoon to provide an update to residents in person.

Dr Holland said the three options are sand renourishment, grading of the beach and restoring the sand dunes or erecting a physical barrier.

He has hit out at reports that he supports compulsory acquisition of the Surfside properties.

“Compulsory acquisition of homes is not realistic,” he told the homeowners.

He said he had checked with the Minister Janelle Saffon and the area also doesn’t currently qualify for disaster funding because the cost to repair the damage to public infrastructure does not add up to at least $270,000.
