Secrecy over Batemans Bay Hospital ED closure documents

The group campaigning to keep the Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department open has accused the State Government of trying to keep information used to justify the decision secret.

Don’t Close Batemans Bay Emergency Department has requested a range of documents from Southern NSW Local Health District and Health Department including a copy of Clinical Service Plans and Critical Mass Numbers.

But President Peter Ryan said he’s been met with nothing but brick walls.

“We believe the community should have access to the information that will have long lasting effect on health benefits to our community, in particular Batemans Bay residents & visitors. These decisions will potentially cost lives with the additional 30-to-90 minute travel times,” he said.

“Information requested should be easily available and without it, suspicion is raised as to why it can’t be released.

“16 meetings were held by Health officials, local members of Parliament and representation from the group “One Eurobodalla Hospital Level 4” leading up to the decision to close Batemans Bay and the site selection for the new hospital but no one is willing to provide copies of the meeting minutes. “
