14-year-old Eurobodalla local, Zara Hall, has finished 6th in the world in the under 18’s Female Beach Flags.

In a mammoth effort, Zara not only made it to the final eight but finished 6th against competitors older than her.

The result comes after Zara brought home a silver medal in the Under 14’s Female Beach Flags at this year’s Australian Youth Surf Life Saving Championships and was named the NSW Female Junior Surf LifeSaver of The Year.

The youngster is the first Moruya Surf Club member to be awarded Junior Surf LifeSaver of The Year and the first on the Far South Coast since Michelle Bouvet from Tathra Surf Club in 1993.

Zara told ARN Bega Bay, she’s just doing what she loves.

“Competing in flags is my favourite event, surf life saving competition-wise,” Hall said.

“It’s just that exhilarating feeling of when you turn and you see that flag, and you do everything you can to get it, that’s just my favourite feeling.”

Zara’s Mum Fiona, said she and Zara’s dad Glenn, couldn’t be prouder of their 14-year-old.

“Just really proud of her putting effort in,” Mrs Hall said.

“To us it’s not necessarily about what you receive at the end of it but putting effort into something that you’re passionate about, it’s fantastic to see.
