A blow to Liberal Eden-Monaro candidate Jo van der Plaat.

She recently promised to spend $9 million on upgrading the Bega Memorial Swimming Pool in the hope of attracting votes in the town.

Anthony Albanese then joined sitting MP Kristy McBain on Saturday to announce a complete $16 million rejuvenation of the 1960’s era facility.

But the PM said this has nothing to do with the coalition’s previous commitment.

“This went through our processes well before. This was in the budget,” Mr Albanese said.

Kristy McBain said the current pool is more than 60 years old and no longer meets the needs of our community.

“I want to ensure this project goes ahead fully funded, without the need for Council to raise further capital funds from the community,” she said.

“The upgraded pool will be critical in supporting the sporting, health, rehabilitation, education and recreation needs of the Bega Valley Shire well into the future and meet the needs and expectations of the next generation.”
