Broulee housing development to be considered at council meeting

February 20, 2024 5:59 am in by

Eurobodalla Shire Council will meet today (Tuesday February 20), for the first time this year.

The agenda includes the half-yearly operational plan update and quarterly budget review statement but the hot ticket item is the planning proposal for a new 800 lot housing development at 207 Broulee Road, behind Carroll College.

The development known as “The Farm” is proposed for a 126.7 hectare site incorporating the Mount Oldrey Homestead and part of the Illawong Nature Reserve. The site is zoned for Primary Production and Environmental Conservation and is currently used for grazing cattle.

If approved, the development will essentially double the size of Broulee’s population.

The proposal, by Sydney-based developer Brightlands Living, would require a rezoning to allow for an expansion of Broulee village – setting a precedent for future development outside the Eurobodalla Rural Lands Strategy and the Eurobodalla Settlement Strategy.

Nine speakers, all presenting about the Broulee planning proposal are registered for today’s Public Fourm which gets underway from 10am, with the Council meeting to be held from 12.30pm.
