A family chauffeur named Bruno (played by Lon Chaney Jr.) devotes himself to the care of three siblings in their dilapidated rural mansion after the death of their father. The siblings have a rare inherited condition because of inbreeding called “Merrye Syndrome”, a condition starting in early puberty that causes them to regress mentally, socially and physically. Bruno looks after them to maintain the family’s discretion, but when greedy relatives show up to seize their inheritance Bruno can no longer contain the truth that lurks behind the confines of the Merrye family mansion.
